Maria Lena Soto is a mixed media artist/instructor. She creates abstract and still life art. She lives with her husband in Gering, Nebraska. She attended Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska obtaining her Associate of Arts degree in 2002. She inherited her talent and love of art from her talented mother. She has created art most of her life. She is mostly a self-taught artist always trying new techniques and mediums. As her children grew up she became more serious about art and teaching art to others.
She is an active member of the North Platte Valley Artist Guild. She has shown art in the Gering Arts Festival annually since 2007, the President’s show and Juried Show at Western Nebraska Arts Center, Barn Anew’s Art in the Courtyard annually since 2009, WNCC John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center Art Gallery show annually since 2012 and won Honorable mention in 2012, with the NPVAG at WNAC annually since 2007 and in other art festivals.
She teaches at Art Camp and the After School Art program to students in two locations for Western Nebraska Arts Center. She has taught art to young students privately. She has also taught art to Lifelink students and to Girl Scouts. She has taught workshops for and is an active member of Association of Nebraska Art Clubs. She has shown work in various local businesses. She teaches classes on handmade books and mixed media art. She teaches art workshops to adults. And she continues to create art in her everyday life.
